Job description 

The Metrology Specialist is responsible for the maintenance, calibration, repair, and qualification of laboratory equipment, as well as the overall management of all instruments in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

The incumbent develops, reviews, and executes Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ) protocols for instruments and equipment. They are also responsible for maintaining inventory and tracking specific events related to each piece of equipment in the asset management software (CMMS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, adjustments, calibration, and validation of all laboratory instruments and equipment as required, following manufacturer-recommended procedures or those established by Neopharm.
  • Install and qualify new laboratory instruments (IQ/OQ/PQ) in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Record calibration, validation, maintenance, and repair results in reports or appendices within equipment logs.
  • Monitor daily operations of systems related to laboratory activities.
  • Organize and manage external calibration of primary instruments and liaise with external service providers as needed.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of equipment and qualification dates in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Keep an inventory of spare parts for critical equipment to minimize downtime in case of failure.
  • Document any non-conformity, deviation, incident, or malfunction in the quality system and notify the relevant manager(s).
  • Assist laboratory personnel with the use and maintenance of instruments and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Write and revise SOPs related to instrumentation.
  • Perform other related tasks as mutually agreed upon and assigned by the immediate supervisor
     

Profile Sought

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in sciences (Chemistry or Biology) or in Electronics (with relevant experience).
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in laboratory instrumental analysis (an asset).
  • Experience working in a regulated environment (GMP).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, strong organizational abilities, and meticulous documentation practices.
  • Experience in instrumentation and analytical chemistry is a definite asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a structured, regulated environment.
  • French (spoken) – English (reading and writing).
